The Committee of Adjustment is established under the Planning Act to consider certain planning applications and make decisions on matters including:

  • Minor variances to the Zoning By-law
  • Extensions, enlargements, or variations to existing legal non-conforming uses
  • Land division applications, including severances, lot additions, easements, mortgages, and leases over 21 years
  • Determining whether a proposed use conforms with the Zoning By-law where permitted uses are defined in general terms

The County of Bruce Planning Department is responsible for the preparation of the planning reports and recommendations to the Committee for these applications.

The Court of Revision hears appeals of drainage assessments for proposed municipal drainage works under the Drainage Act. The assessment determines each affected property owner's share of the project costs.

Property owners wishing to appeal an assessment must submit written notice to the Clerk at least 10 days before the first sitting of the Court. The notice must explain why:

  • the assessment is too high or too low, or
  • the assessment does not properly reflect the use of the land.

Decisions of the Court of Revision may be appealed to the Ontario Drainage Tribunal.

The Court of Revision meets only when an appeal has been received.
