About the Role:

We are seeking a dedicated and cautious Crossing Guard to join our team and ensure the safety of students crossing at the designated crosswalk. Our ideal candidate will be friendly and compassionate while safely assisting children on their daily commute to and from school.

  • Assist school-aged children in safely crossing established crosswalks.
  • Stop and direct traffic using the necessary safety equipment, maintaining a safe and orderly flow of vehicles.
  • Promote a culture of safety awareness among students, emphasizing the importance of walking bicycles across the intersections.
  • Stay vigilant and report any traffic violations or unsafe practices that may compromise child safety to the appropriate authorities (OPP).
  • Be prepared to respond to incidents or emergencies, taking swift action to obtain necessary assistance.

Who We're Looking For:

  • Someone who is knowledgeable with a solid understanding of the Highway Traffic Act and its applicable rules and regulations is essential.
  • Prior experience working with people, especially in a customer service or community-focused role.
  • Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills to effectively interact with students, parents, and drivers.
  • A completed vulnerable sector check is mandatory to ensure the safety and well-being of our students.
  • The ability to stand for extended periods, up to 2 hours per day, is essential.
  • Resilience to work in various weather conditions, including hot and cold temperatures, rain, and snow.

The Deputy Chief/Fire Prevention Officer responsibilities are to:

  • Inspire a safer community by leading meaningful fire prevention and public education initiatives that empower residents and reduce risks in a small, rural environment.
  • Promote community trust and safety by conducting Fire Code inspections and investigations with fairness, consistency, and a strong commitment to protecting the public.
  • Create and deliver meaningful fire and life safety programs that strengthen safety and awareness for all who live, work, and play a part in our community, including families, businesses, and local organizations.
  • Contribute to a high standard of service by ensuring all reports, records, permits, and operational documentation are accurate, thorough, and consistently up to date.
  • Strengthen community connections by building positive, trusting relationships with residents, volunteers, farmers, and community partners—rooted in an understanding and respect for rural culture and the volunteer fire service model.

Who We're Looking For: 

  • A knowledgeable fire service professional who meets key NFPA standards and is committed to ongoing certification and training.
  • An experienced fire and emergency services provider with at least five years in the industry, strong understanding of fire prevention, fire codes, building codes, IMS and the operation of fire service vehicles and equipment.
  • A strong communicator and relationship builder who can adjust their approach for different audiences—such as seniors, youth, farmers, business owners—and who values trust, compassion, and community presence.
  • A highly organized problem solver with proven skills in workload management, task prioritization, stress management, and sound judgment, supported by solid computer competency.
  • A collaborative, community minded team player who builds rapport easily, works well with community partners, and is comfortable engaging directly with the public—even in challenging or high pressure situations.

Additional Strengths We Welcome:

These qualifications are viewed as added assets that can strengthen the role and contribute positively to our team:

  • Knowledge or experience in fire suppression operations, including familiarity with firefighting tactics, equipment, and on scene support.
  • Understanding of the unique dynamics, values, and traditions of rural communities, including the ability to build rapport within a volunteer based fire service environment.
  • A valid DZ driver’s license, supporting the safe operation of larger fire service or municipal vehicles.
